Hurricane IRENE moved up the Atlantic Coast and into New England just east of New York City causing record flooding as 8 - 16 inches of rain swelled rivers to record levels. Pictured above is Cohoes Falls on the Mohawk River just above its confluence with the Hudson River. The flow rose from a lazy trickle of 1,000 cubic feet per second on Sunday to a near record setting torrent of 115,000 cubic feet per second early Monday afternoon.
